BAL LAB
Small-group live intensives exploring technique, history, creativity, teaching, and performance.
Slow Bal Lab September 8-29

Four Weeks. Ten Dancers. A Serious Deep Dive Into Slow Balboa and Laminu.
This isn’t just another four-week class.
The Slow Balboa Lab is a small-group intensive for dancers who want to go deeper into Slow Balboa: how we dance it, where the movement came from, how we create with it, and even how we teach it.
Over four weeks, we’ll work with historical footage, recreate ideas from the original dancers, and explore what happens when we take those ideas apart and make them our own.
We’ll cover:
1. Receive Historical Slow Balboa footage as well as movement breakdowns
2. Recreating the original dances of Dean Raftery and Ray Cunningham
3. Understanding why those movements worked
4. Technique, rhythm, connection and movement quality
5. Taking historical ideas and creating new variations
6. Developing your own style
7. Creativity and improvisation exercises
8. Choreography and performance ideas
9. How to break movements down for teaching
10. How I approach building and communicating Slow Balboa material
11. Individual feedback throughout the four weeks
This is meant to be a lab, not a lecture. We’ll dance, create, ask questions, analyze footage, try things that work, try things that don’t, and have you come out the other side understanding Slow Balboa on a much deeper level.
Limited to 10 dancers
Price: Four-week intensive: $225 per person
Small enough that I can actually work with everyone individually.
If you want to take your Slow Balboa beyond simply learning more moves and start understanding how to study it, create with it, teach it and make it your own, this is for you.
